Surtain II congratulates Makar

Pat Surtain II and Cale Makar did an excellent job defending Denver this year.

The Denver Broncos cornerback congratulated the Colorado Avalanche defenseman on his Norris Trophy win in a video message posted to social media on Wednesday.

“What’s going on Cale. I want to give a huge congratulations from one defensive player of the year to another,” Surtain II said in the video. “Congrats on another big award. Congrats man.”

Surtain II won the 2024 NFL defensive player of the year award, becoming the second player in Broncos history to receive the honor.

Makar was surprised with his second Norris Trophy while golfing with his friends. He also won the trophy during the 2021-22 season.

The Avalanche also applauded their teammate on his accomplishment with special video messages.

“Caler, Congratulations on your Norris,” forward Nathan MacKinnon said in the video. “Feels like you have 10. Apparently its only two, unbelievable. I think we’re all very lucky to play with you man. You make our lives very easy. Obviously, one of the best players in the league, best d-man in the world. Congratulations and many more to come, I’m sure.”
