Roy Cooper Canes jersey

Whether or not Gov. Roy Cooper could skate with the Carolina Hurricanes is up for discussion, but either way he sure knows how to look the part.

On Monday, a day before the Hurricanes face off against the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final, the former North Carolina governor shared an old photo of himself dressed in full hockey gear.

Helmet, stick, customized Hurricanes jersey and all.

“This Caniac is so ready for our Canes to take the ice against the Florida Panthers,” Cooper said in the post. “I’ll try to lay off Brad Marchand now that he’s on a new team. Unless he starts it.”

Cooper has been a longtime supporter of the Hurricanes, and last December presented coach Rod Brind'Amour with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina’s highest civilian honor, after giving a postgame speech to the team.

Puck drop for Game 1 is set for Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET (MAX, TNT, SN, TVAS, CBC) in Raleigh.
